Our beloved CorollaToday we say good-bye to our 1995 Toyota Corolla.  It’s the car that Jen and I bought just a few months before we got married.  I remember agonizing over the cost of the car.  “Could we afford it?”  We tried to sell it when we got into campus ministry, but there were no takers.  That was over 10 years ago!  All tolled we drove our Corolla for 12 years.  It’s practically a member of the family.

But as our real family grew the little green car became too small.  Finally a DC pothole did her in a few weeks ago.  With a bent rim, an expiring registration, and a list of other serious mechanical issues, we realized our time together had come to an end.  In a few hours, I’ll sign the title over to Teen Challenge, a Christ-centered drug rehabilitation program and they’ll use it to help fund their ministry.

So this is good-bye to our beloved Corolla.  You served us well.  We’ll miss your fun manual transmission and your ability to squeeze into tight parking spaces.  My your blessing of reliability and fuel efficiency follow us forever.

Volvo Volvo sideYou’re looking @ the latest in Godzwa transportation! Thanks to a few generous gifts we were able to purchase a 1995 Volvo 850 GLT Station Wagon. It’s not too often that you find a 12 year old car in this good of shape. It had only one previous owner (who obviously had kids – I found Play-Do under the passenger seat) who did all the maintenance @ the dealership and remembered to write it all down in his maintenance log (who does that?). The real shocker is that is only has 104,111 miles on the odometer! In Volvo years it’s a teenager.

As you can see from the photos it’s not the sexiest car on the block, but it does fit 3 car seats across the back and the price was right. At this stage in my life, those things make it a pretty attractive option. Oh, and the sunroof is pretty cool too :) A big THANK YOU to everyone who made this possible!
